Dr. Tyner's Ice Cream Social - Book and School Supply Drive - Tommies in Ghana

Dr. Tyner's Ice Cream Social - Book and School Supply Drive - Tommies in Ghana

All are welcome -- Please come!

Dr. Artika Tyner will lead a conversation about Ghana, the work that she has been doing there over the past few years, and a bit about the Tommies' upcoming return trip in January, 2019!

You'll hear about the 2018 Tommie Summer Trip to Ghana and St. Thomas’ efforts to build a library, donate healthcare supplies to the health center, work with the schools while bringing literacy and love to the children and people of Ghana.

And yes - it's an Ice Cream Social, too, so don't have dessert before you come!

In connection with this event will be a School Supply and Book Drive, where we especially request books for and about children with diverse backgrounds.  Dr. Tyner will then bring your donations to Ghana in support of the library and literacy programs there when she returns during January term, 2019.

What is needed?

Please consider bringing a donation of any of these items:

pencils, crayons,

markers, activity books, jumbo crayons for preschoolers,

paper (copy paper or loose leaf),

multicultural children's books, backpacks,

learning tools for the preschool, such as larger Legos and wooden puzzles, board books

If you wish to bring your donations between now and the Thursday night event, you may drop them off in the bin just outside of Office 203 in the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library.

Thank you in advance for your donations of books or school supplies.   They will be much appreciated!!
